League Cap: $40,000,000
Player Contracts
1) No contract may be more than $5M in any year, or less than $1M.
2) No contract may exceed 3 seasons in length. Contract extensions are permissible only in the final season of a contract. Contract re-negotiations are only permissible in the final year of a contract.
3) Contracts may not carry cash incentive clauses for the current season. This is due to the hard cap.
4) A drafted player who does not agree to a contract with his club may be signed for $1M for 1 year, or released with no penalty.
5) Which ever team holds the player pays for the contract. (If the teams want/need to offset a salary difference in a trade, they will include some cash in the trade.)
6) A contract "option" will be defined as an opportunity to opt-out. Players and GMs who hold options on a contract must declare their intent to opt-out prior to the opening of free agency. Failure to do so by the deadline will be interpreted as an opt-in (the player will remain on the team)
7) Player salary will not be carried over from year to year. Any salary money which has not been spent by the end of the regular season (the posting of statistics for the last game of the regular season) is lost. Any player who fails to spend his salary during a season may be released by his team without penalty during the offseason. This decision must be made prior to the Draft.
