Ross Newest Addition to UFSL
Associated Press
“The Teflon Don” Rick Ross is officially a free agent in the newly formed UFSL. Ross has had a loud introduction to the UFSL community and is looking to quickly make a reputation for himself in the league. Ross has confirmed that he will be willing to play any position except safety. Some people may look at Ross as if he was a rookie, but that would be a grave mistake, according to his representatives. In a statement to the Associated Press, Ross’s agent Drew Rosenhaus had this to say:
“Sure, Rick Ross is a fresh name in the football community, but trust me he’s been in these situations before. Ross is no rookie to the idea of a football league. While we don’t want to give out too much information, don’t sleep on Rick Ross. He knows what it takes to be successful, and any team that he ends up on won’t regret it.”
Rosenhaus is one of the best agents in the game. It’s no coincidence Ross demanded his representation.
Initial interest in Ross hasn’t been as strong as Rosenhaus expected, but over time he expects teams to start calling about his client. Ross is in a tough position because the league’s inaugural draft was just days ago. Ross now has to wait out initial cuts, and may have to start the season in a backup role. While this isn’t exactly what Ross wants, that may be exactly what he’s facing. Teams won’t be willing to throw huge contracts at free agents, but if someone does, expect them to become the immediate favorite to land Ross. It appears that while winning is an important factor, money is also going to mean something to Ross. If no team is willing to pay fair value for his services, Ross has no problem proving himself on a one year contract, according to Rosenhaus. It will be interesting to see which general managers will shy away from Ross due to uncertainty around his past. Rosenahus says that this was intentional, to create a certain type of hype and interest in his client. Ross and his representatives are looking to sign with a team that possesses a bold front office and isn’t afraid to get behind a project like Ross. It’s clear that Ross wants to feel like he will have an important place on the team, wherever he signs. After announcing his status as a free agent on Twitter, Ross released this statement:
“I’m excited to join the family of the UFSL. We’re all hungry out there and we’re looking for a road to football immortality. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to play in a league with such an amount of talent. I miss the feeling of coming out of that tunnel; I’m going to make the most of this opportunity.”
The Teflon Don is fired up to be back in the sport he loves. Who will be willing to take a chance on him?
Ross certainly is an interesting character, perhaps one of the most in the entire league. Nobody seems to know a lot about his past, and that can be a turn off to a lot of teams. All we can do is take Rosenhaus and Ross at their word and wait to see what the league’s reaction is. Eventually someone will want to sign Ross to their team, but who knows exactly when that will be.
