Being selected first overall in a league is quite an honour. At the same time, it can also bite you in the ass as the spotlight will be on you at all times. Often in the past, we have seen players not meet these high expectations of being the best in the league. Either they get bored with things and quit, or they just flat out don't meet up to expectations. Lets take a look at some of these players:
ISL Reborn: Cerebral Assassin - While he had a productive season, Assassin was behind quite a few guys in TPE with 64. To put that into perspective, he was fifth on his own team in points earned. He was a vet with a ton of experience, but based on productivity, he was more of a second rounder than a first overall pick.
VFL: Kasen Carter - Here is a great example of how an Administrator will not always make the best players. Despite his impressive track record, Kasen Carter proved to just be a decent player in the VFL's short existence. He was expected to be an elite player but instead was left with just the elite potential, as his agent went on a leave of absence. In their championship run, he was sixth in TPE on the Haze.
Madden Madness: Ron Dayne - On the surface, he was an excellent pick. A 2x HBOTY, 1x MVP and OPOY...however..the only issue is..he retired after two seasons. While he was amazing for the two years he played, you want your first overall pick to play more than a few years. Therefore, overall, this probably wasn't the best pick for the Blackhawks.
Just a few examples of how first overall picks don't usually turn out to be the top player in the league. Will this pressure be square on the shoulders of Miller? Absolutely. Is he going to flounder? Time will tell.
