“With the 11th overall pick in the inaugural UFSL draft. The Seattle Stormtroopers select…KJ Bryant, tight end out of the University of California Los Angeles.” And with that the legend began. KJ Bryant was sitting with his agent, his parents, and his high school coach as he heard his naming being called by the UFSL commissioner. Everything he had ever done in his life was about to pay off. Within second, he received a call from the general manager of the team who congratulated him for making it into professional football and saying that he was glad to have him on the team. KJ Bryant had never felt so ready in his life and it was time to begin his career.
Standing at 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 235 pounds, KJ Bryant was a giant compared to some of the other players in the draft. He was built to be a tight end but he had a few things that separated him from the other contenders for his spot in the draft. He was quick for such a huge man and his hands were incredibly soft for having to wear XXXXL gloves that were custom made for him in college. He was going to be a dominant force in the run game with his blocking abilities as well as being able to pick up yards through the air when needed.
However, this all changed when the general manager called KJ into his office before the first team meeting and day of practice even started. KJ had no idea what to expect when meeting with his coaches and teammates but he was ready to play football again. As KJ sat down in front of his “bosses” he smiled even though he was sweating a little and he was pretty nervous. “KJ, there have already been some concerns expressed by a few of the athletes and players stating that they want to play on the offensive side of the ball. We know you have played tight end throughout college but we also know that you played a little bit of strong safety and outside linebacker during your high school years. We are looking to do a little bit of roster shifting and we know you have what it takes to make the transition quickly and dominate early on.” KJ was a little disappointed at the fact that he wouldn’t be able to help score touchdowns for his team and be an all-star at tight end but as a former team captain and a kid with an immense passion for football, he would do anything to be on that field. “What position would I be playing coach? You know that I would do anything for this team. It is my home now and I’m ready to be the player you need me to be.” “Free safety. We believe you can team up with Jamaal Stockton and create one of the nastiest duos in the league. Do you accept?” KJ had no time to really think about it and he knew no matter what happened he’d have the same answer. “Yes coach. I am ready. Let’s get to work.”
KJ headed into the locker room to meet his teammates for the first time. He walked up to Jamaal Stockton, the Stormtroopers 2nd round selection, and shook his hand. “I’m KJ Bryant. I’ll be playing free safety this season next to you. Let’s shut down this league alright man?” The two laughed and got their pads on to head out to practice. The future looks bright for the Stormtroopers when it comes to pass coverage. The Stockton and Bryant duo will be the greatest in UFSL history. Count on it.
