"Does Defense Really Win Championships?"

"Defense Wins Championships!" are the words that come out of every defensive minded team that go all the way. But when an offensive powerhouse ends up winning it all, everything changes to "A Good Defense is a Great Offense." This UFSL season is bound to bring us some great match-ups between defensive minded teams and offensive powerhouses. But who will come out on top? Does defense really overtake a good offense?
This is the question that the Seattle Stormtroopers are asking themselves right now. After a great draft, the Stormtroopers have arguably the strongest defense in the league coming into pre-season. With a less than sure candidate at quarterback in Landon Carter, the Stormtroopers offense may not be very consistent this season. But if their defense is indeed as strong as their making it seem, Ikechukwu Osuwah and the rest of the offense may not have much to worry about. Let's break down each key player in this defense and see why the league is already scared to play these guys.
Outside Linebackers: Ken Sady/Prince Sackington
Though this may be the weakest part of the defense outside of their D-Line, Sady and Sackington would be considered the best defensive players on some of the teams in the UFSL. These two young studs are going to be a problem for any rushing offense in the league. With a great leader at middle linebacker these two will have someone to show them the ropes and by the end of the season they should be a huge impact for this defense.
Cornerbacks: Taylor Green/Bam Risso/CJ Jordan
Quarterbacks better watch out for these three when they pass the ball against this defense. Taylor Green will be the one guarding teams' best receiver this season, as Risso will take on the second receiver and Jordan will take on the third. CJ Jordan, who was just added to the Stormtroopers line-up this week, can also back-up their incredible safety duo as well. I’m predicting Taylor Green and Bam Risso to combine for seven interceptions this season.
Safeties: Jamaal Stockton/KJ Bryant
These two guys are the two best safeties in the UFSL, and they happen to both be Stormtroopers. With these two beasts leading the defensive backs, I'm not sure how any quarterback is going to have a successful game against Seattle. Along with that, it’s going to be just as rare to see any wide receivers be able to get open more than a couple times a game against these guys. Many people are making crazy predictions, foreseeing that Stockton and Bryant together will force more than ten turnovers between the two of them over the course of the season.
Middle Linebacker: Lord Vader
Vader was the third overall pick and is the beast leader of this incredible group of guys. Though Vader is really their only star talent at linebacker, it shouldn’t be a problem for him to single-handedly disrupt the rushing game of any team in this league. And with great young guys like Sady and Sackington behind him, he finishes off this amazing defensive roster for the Seattle Stormtroopers.
Seattle will make their way through this season looking to prove to the league that their dominant defense is too much for any offenses in the UFSL. Their offense isn’t too shabby either, with Osuwah at halfback, Carter at quarterback, Oakley and Henderson at receivers, and Steele at tight end. With the respectable offense and the dominant defense that the Seattle Stormtroopers have put together, their the favorite to win it all and have a target on their back that all other teams are looking to destroy.
