The Reno Predators will pack up and fly up to Seattle to face the Stormtroopers in the week one matchup set to be played Monday night. These two teams have different skill sets but both teams show excellence at many positions. This matchup is set to be a battle between Reno’s offense and Seattle’s defense. However, I will break down each offensive position in this matchup and explain who I think has the edge in this one and who I believe should walk away with the victory when all is said and done Monday night.
Quarterback:
Rock Afella versus Landon Carter
Both players have showed that they have what it takes to lead a team from under center and both players want to prove that they are the better quarterback. Rock Afella came into the league as an athlete and was known for his speed which had many predicting that he was going to play at the runningback spot until Reno recognized his arm during training camp. Landon Carter was an explosive quarterback coming out of the University of Oregon and after a quick controversy between Carter and Steele of who would earn the spot, Carter came out on top as Steele moved to tight end. Overall, Rock Afella has the edge as he is backed by one of the top agents and has shown he can throw the ball. Carter is not far behind though.
Runningback:
Elijah McNugget versus Ikechukwu Osuwah
This is definitely the matchup to watch when it comes to position battles. Both players are quick and dynamic backs like many of the others coming out of the draft. McNugget is complimented by having a dominate passing game which allows his linemen to open big holes and will allow him to run a good amount when the pass is also effective. Osuwah is touted as the best back in the league and he wants to prove himself right out of the gate with a stunning week one performance. Overall, Ikechukwu Osuwah has the edge by about .000001% and I wouldn’t be surprised if Elijah has a great game.
Wide Receivers:
Devin Street and Staphid Jarvis versus Keon Henderson and Jordan Oakley
Just by names only this matchup is very interesting. Street and Jarvis are backed by two well-known agents and have an uncanny ability to get open and make plays with their speed and solid hands. Henderson and Oakley are underdogs even though they are also backed by very good agents and have shown during training camp and practice sessions that they are here to make a statement in the UFSL. Overall, Street and Jarvis have the edge with Rock Afella throwing nice spirals to them on a consistent basis.
Tight Ends:
Dwayne Carter versus Aldous Steele
I have not heard much about Dwayne Carter since the draft but being a 6 foot 4 inch tight end specialist with average speed, average acceleration, and average hands will always make some plays during the season. I’m not expecting too much from him in week one. Aldous Steele is another name I am not sure about but I am expecting a breakout season. Steele stands a staggering 6 foot 6 inches and weighs a whole 250 pounds; combined that with blazing speed and good hands and Steele becomes a Tight End of the Year contender. Overall, Aldous Steele has a major edge and if the Stormtroopers get him in the mix then it could prove to be a deadly combination.
Overall:
This matchup is going to be explosive on offense with a lot of great names lining up for both teams. This game may be determined by the defense as both teams will try their best to put up points with their firepower. The Stormtroopers have a defensive advantage but the Predators may have the offensive advantage overall. This game will be an exciting one to watch and I predict a Stormtroopers win by less than 7.
