Week 1 UFSL Players of the Week
Week 1 of the very first UFSL season is in the books. The Griffins beat the Nightmare in a close low scoring game by the score of 9-6. The Stormtroopers blew out the Predators thanks to a great performance from Ikechukwu Osuwah. The final score of the game was 23-5. In week 1 of the first season in almost any league is never that great for individual players and we saw that this week. Defenses strived on offensive mistakes, well that is, 3 of them did.
Offensive Player of the Week
RB - Ikechukwu Osuwah - Seattle Stormtroopers
32 Carries, 202 Yards, 1 Touchdown, 6.3 Average, 2 Receptions, 26 Yards
Osuwah simply destroyed the Predators defense. He made them look like an elementary pick-up squad. He was the reason that the Stormtroopers did so well against the Predators. He stood out from all the other offensive players that made silly and stupid mistakes. Sure, he had his fair share of bad carries but there weren't many. Although, I do have to point out that he only had a 3.4 yards per carry average if it weren't for his long 98 yard touchdown. That's what speed does though, it can beat anyone in a heartbeat. Overall, great performance from Osuwah and I don't expect him too slow down anytime soon.
Runner-Up
RB - Elijah McNugget - Reno Predators
15 Carries, 58 Yards, 3.8 Average
Sure, call it bias all you want. However, it really isn't a bias pick. Yeah, I know, he didn't have the greatest performance of all time, but if you compare him to other offensive players he deserves this spot. No one else did all that great at all. A lot of you are probably asking, "what about Maple Syrup?". If you compare the stats, sure he had 5 more yards than McNugget but it took him 7 more carries and he had 1 yard less per carry. Therefor, McNugget is the runner-up. It isn't really all that great though seeing as he had a bad performance.
Defensive Player of the Week
CB - CJ Jordan - Stormtroopers
4 Tackles, 1 Fumble Recovery, 1 Interception, 1 Touchdown
Seattle's offense wasn't the only reason they won. The defense had a huge part in it as well. CJ was a big part of that defensive effort. He was the reason for 2 turnovers as well as the first defensive touchdown in the UFSL. Jordan did great all game and looked like he'll be a promising player in the weeks to come.
Runner-Up
SS - Jamaal Stocken - Seattle Stormtroopers
9 Tackles
This defense was really doing great against the Predators. The league leading tackler so far is this guy right here. It's not that great of a sign if your safety leads your team in tackles though. However, I guess if you can keep your opponent at 5 points it doesn't really matter that the safety has 9 tackles.
Predators Review and Preview
There's no lying, the Predators played terrible against the Stormtroopers on offense and defense. They'll get a break defensively going against a team that scored just 6 points last week. However they won't get much of an offensive break because of New York's strong defense. The Predators will need a strong performance from McNugget to win. Sure the Predators are mainly a passing team but the best back will carry his team to victory early in leagues 9 out of 10 times.
