Dick Lane sat down with 24 Hours to talk about his business interests.
"I remember back in the day whenever I didn't have a whole lot. I was runnin' around, boostin' cars with a garden rake at $200 a car.
Life was tough back in the day, but you gotta over come, you know?
I came from the streets with nothin'. And when I get my first paycheck, I just want er'ey one to know from back home that you can do it too. I'm gonna be that inspiration for all y'all.
But a guy asked me, what are you gonna plan to do with that money, Dick? And let me tell you somethin', I am a playa. I ain't gonna do the Mike Vick thing with funding an entire entourage. I'm gonna have some big ass Siberian Huskies with ice hanging from their necks.
And then he asked me, why don't you go back to the 'hood, and rebuild the projects, and make them a place for everyone since you're a role model and what not.
My response was pretty simple, 'There was a pretty smart guy, he was a philosopher by the name Mick Jagger, and he once said, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get bling.'
And that's basically the story of how I founded 24k Gold Pawn Shops on the corner of 21st and Park."
